I.  Call to order

Brent Parker, President, called to order the monthly meeting of the Grant Chamber Of Commerce at 11:00A.M. on March 21, 2007 at Porky’s Restaurant in Grant.

 

II.  Roll call

The following persons were present: Brent Parker, Sheila Barbuck, Josh Barnes, Mayor Samatha Lemley, Don Milligan, & Chris Clark.

 

III.  Approval of minutes from last meeting

                A motion was made by Brent Parker to approve the minutes from the February 2007 meeting, a          second motion to approve the minutes as read was made by Josh Barnes.  All COC Board                        members voted to approve the minutes from February 2007. The Treasurer’s report prepared by          Josh Barnes, stated a balance on hand as of 3/21/2007 as $4,778.46.

 

IV.  Committee Reports

*              BRAC (Sheila Barbuck-Chairman)

                                Sheila Barbuck told the board and members about the upcoming BRAC trip to                                                       Washington D.C., and stated that she still needed a few more gifts for the gift baskets that                        the COC would be giving away at the meeting.  She also informed the board that Jan                                               Smith, of the Mountain Valley Arts Council, offered to help prepare the display for the                                      booth that would be set up for Grant, at the BRAC meeting.  Sheila said the BRAC Trip                                       would take place April 11th thru April 14th, and that she would give a full report at the                                           next meeting.

 

*              DAR School Coordinator (Stacy Anderton)

                *              Events (Faye Frazier-Chairman)

                                The board discussed setting a new dated for the Early Bird Breakfast at Parker Law Firm.                    Brent said, he would talk with Faye Frazier and try to get a set date for the breakfast.  It                                            was mentioned that it would be a good idea to invite a speaker to the breakfast.

               

                *              Golf Tournament (Don Milligan-Chairman)

                                Don Milligan said  he would check with the golf courses in the area and try to get a few                                      different dates that the COC could have their annual golf tournament.  The golf courses                                     mentioned were Gunter’s Landing, Scottsboro Country Club, & Twin Lakes.  Also he                                        was going to check on the prices and the number of teams needed for each course.

 

                *              Membership (Jean Brewer-Chairman)

                                No report.

               

                *              Business Development (Josh Barnes-Chairman)

                                Josh Barnes said that he would be getting with Dr. Elizabeth Billings to come up with a                                       few different activities to help the businesses of Grant draw customers during the                                       summer months.

 

                *              Tourism (Danny Lewis-Chairman)

V.  Old Business

*              There was more discussion on the date for the Early Bird Breakfast.  Faye Frazier And Sheila Barbuck will be taking care of getting the food for the event.  Brent Parker said it was still ok to use his office at Parker Law Firm for the event.

 

 

VI.  New Business

                *              Brent Parker said that he would talk to a friend of his that makes brochures, to get a                                             price on printing new brochures for the COC.  He said he would also check on doing a                                       mailing to different individuals in the community to give them information on the COC.

 

                *              Sheila said it was time again to do a newsletter for the COC members about the activities                                    that the COC has going on.  She said we could e-mail some of them to the members that                                              have e-mail addressees to save on postage expense. 

 

                *              Josh Barnes said that the Annual Grant 4th Of July Festival was coming up and that we                                       needed to get with Doug Campbell to see what we needed to do for the event.
