I.  Call to order

Sheila Barbuck, Board Member, called to order the monthly meeting of the Grant Chamber Of Commerce at 11:00A.M. on Wednesday April 18th , 2007 at the Grant Chamber Of Commerce Office.

 

II.  Roll call

The following persons were present:  Sheila Barbuck, Josh Barnes, Mayor Samatha Lemley, Faye Frazier, & Stacey Anderton.

 

III.  Approval of minutes from last meeting

                A motion was made by Sheila Barbuck to approve the minutes from the March 2007 meeting, a          second motion to approve the minutes as read was made by Josh Barnes.  All COC Board                        members voted to approve the minutes from March 2007. The Treasurer’s report prepared by          Josh Barnes, stated a balance on hand as of 4/17/2007 as $3,856.54.

 

IV.  Committee Reports

*              BRAC (Sheila Barbuck-Chairman)

                                Sheila Barbuck, Josh Barnes, & Samatha Lemley gave a report on their trip to Washingon                  D.C. for the BRAC Meeting.  They were able to meet many different individuals that                                              may be interested in moving to the Grant community.  Sheila said that she would be                                      attending a meet in Athens in May to discuss what the communities could do differently                                              at the next meeting.  Sheila also told the board that the chamber should be getting money                                   back on the BRAC expenses some time in May after a expense report is filed with the                                          Huntsville Chamber of Commerce.

 

*              DAR School Coordinator (Stacy Anderton)

                *              Events (Faye Frazier-Chairman)

                                The board decided to have the Early Bird Breakfast at Parker Law Firm on Friday May                                         11th at 7:30am.  Faye & Sheila will be taking care of the food.  Faye said that we also                                        need to be thinking about what we are going to do for the breakfast June 2nd at Caverns                                                Cove.  She said that she would talk with the owners to see if they want us to use the same                         menu from last year.                           

               

                *              Golf Tournament (Don Milligan-Chairman)

                                Stacey Anderton said that he would get with Don Milligan and try to get a date set for the                                 Golf Tournament.  He said he would also check on some prices at local golf courses in                                                the area.  Stacey Anderton said we need to decided if we want to do a tournament in                                    the Spring or Fall.  He said we still have time for a Spring Golf Tournament if we start                                        planning soon.

 

                *              Membership (Jean Brewer-Chairman)

                                Sheila Barbuck said that she would re-bill for COC Members from the previous 2006                                             year if they have not renewed yet for the 2007 year.

               

                *              Business Development (Josh Barnes-Chairman)

                                Josh Barnes said that he would be getting with Dr. Elizabeth Billings to come up with a                                       few different activities to help the businesses of Grant draw customers during the                                       summer months.

 

                *              Tourism (Danny Lewis-Chairman)

V.  Old Business

*              Discussion of helping with Breakfast at Caverns Cove June 2nd.

 

*              Josh Barnes  & Mayor Lemley said that he would be talking with Doug Campbell on the Annual 4th Of July Festival that the Chamber of Commerce usually helps sponsor.  Josh  Barnes will be e-mailing everyone the planning meeting dates as soon as he knows.

 

*              Faye Frazier said that she would call Joe Powell and ask when we needed to get started planning our mile long yard sale. 

 

*              Josh Barnes said that Brent Parker was getting the Chamber a price on doing new brochures.

 

*              Sheila Barbuck volunteered to start working on a newsletter to send out to the current members so they would have an idea of what the Chamber Of Commerce had been doing for the first part of the year.

 

VI.  New Business

                *              Faye Frazier said that it would be a good idea to call of the current members and remind                                      them of the Early Bird Breakfast on May 11th.  Sheila said she would e-mail everyone,                                                and that                 Brent would be sending out the invitations.
