I.  Call to order

Brent Parker, President, called to order the monthly meeting of the Grant Chamber Of Commerce at 9:00A.M. on Friday May 11th , 2007 at Parker law Firm in Grant, AL.

 

II.  Roll call

The following persons were present:  Brent Parker, Sheila Barbuck, Josh Barnes, Faye Frazier, & Elizabeth Billings.

 

III.  Approval of minutes from last meeting

                A motion was made by Sheila Barbuck to approve the minutes from the April 2007 meeting, a            second motion to approve the minutes as read was made by Josh Barnes.  All COC Board                        members voted to approve the minutes from April 2007. The Treasurer’s report prepared by          Josh Barnes, stated a balance on hand as of 5/11/2007 as $2,455.09.

 

IV.  Committee Reports

*              BRAC (Sheila Barbuck-Chairman)

                                Sheila Barbuck stated that she had filed an  expense report with the Huntsville Chamber                                     Of Commerce for expenses incurred from BRAC (D.C. Trip, brochures, shirts, computer,                               etc.).  She said that we should receive a check sometime in June.  Also, she said that we                                       needed to check on the money the Marshall County Commission promised the chamber                                          for BRAC.  They owe the chamber around $1,800.00 from the $2,500.00 they set aside                                          for BRAC.  Josh Barnes said that he would called Rhonda the secretary for the county                                        commission to see what the chamber needed to do to get what was left of the BRAC                                             money.

 

*              DAR School Coordinator (Stacy Anderton)

                *              Events (Faye Frazier-Chairman)

                                Faye Frazier said that she still needed members to sign up to help with the Caverns Cove                                   Breakfast & Lunch.  She said there will be a morning shift and a lunch shift.  Mr. & Mrs.                                           Franks said they would buy the supplies and the chamber could reimburse them, they also                         said the chamber could keep any profit made off of the breakfast & lunch.

 

                *              Golf Tournament (Don Milligan-Chairman)

                                Josh Barnes said he would contact Stacey Anderton & Don Milligan to see how the                                           planning for the golf tournament was going.

 

                *              Membership (Jean Brewer-Chairman)

                                Sheila Barbuck said that she would re-bill for COC Members from the previous 2006                                             year if they have not renewed yet for the 2007 year.

               

                *              Business Development (Josh Barnes-Chairman)

                                Josh Barnes said that he would be getting with Dr. Elizabeth Billings to come up with a                                       few different activities to help the businesses of Grant draw customers during the                                       summer months.

 

                *              Tourism (Danny Lewis-Chairman)

V.  Old Business

*              Discussed helping the city with the Annual 4th of July Festival.  Josh Barnes said that a meeting was being planned sometime in June to plan for the event lead by Doug Campbell.

 

*              The date was set for the 2nd Annual Mile Long Yard Sale for the last Saturday in September.  Sheila said that we needed to get with Joe Powell to make sure he will head this event again.  We have already been receiving many calls on the yard sale.

 

VI.  New Business

                *              Chamber invited Chase who owns a brochure and printing company in Huntsville to                                           speak to the chamber about doing a new brochure.  Brent Parker said that maybe we                                  would be able to use money from BRAC to help pay for the brochures.  Sheila Barbuck                                            stated that we still had a grant that will pay for half of the brochures.  Chase was able to                                            give the chamber a few different ideas for a new brochure and would be working up a                                          price. 

 

                *              Elizabeth Billings brought up some different events that the chamber might want to                                             consider hosting during the fall and summer to bring people into the town of Grant.  She                                     mentioned having some type of three day festival with different artists painting murals                                          around town and letting everyone judge on who they think has the best painting.  People                                          will also get to watch while the artists are painting, she got the idea while on vacation last                 month.
