Hospice of Marshall County hosted the first Early Bird Coffee of 2011 held at Porky's restaurant in Grant. Susan Sanders of Hospice spoke about the Race to Remember 5K and 1 mile fun run scheduled Saturday March 5th at 8:00am starting at Snead College in Boaz. All proceeds benefit Hospice of Marshall County.
Bob Barker of Rising Above Ministries in Grant gave attendees a history of the beginnings of the effort to give food to needy families in the Grant area. Currently the ministry holds a 501c3 status, making all donations tax deductible. This also allows Rising Above to participate in the USDA food programs. All 4 members of the Rising Above Ministry Board of Directors were in attendance at the breakfast: Bob Barker, Nell Barker, Wes Paradise and Phyllis Paradise.
Mayor Larry Walker stated while some communities are discussing raising taxes, Grant will not raise its sales tax. The town is in good financial shape and has completed several projects in 2010 and has several others in the works for 2011.
The Grant Chamber office is now open several days a week with Shirley Baggett as Volunteer Attendant. Look for the OPEN sign and stop by for coffee & cookies and chat with our volunteer staff to see what the Grant Chamber can offer your business.

State Representative Wes Long of Guntersville spoke briefly and encouraged attendees to visit the Marshall County Legislative Delegation website: www.mclo.org
Matt Arnold from the Marshall County Economic Development Council praised the county for a low unemployment rate. He said the board is working with several prospective businesses looking to possibly move to Marshall County from other areas.
